This thesis focuses on data literacy and its application in the field of environmental and science literacy. The aim of this thesis was to map data literacy in environmental education among second grade elementary school students. This aim of the thesis was fulfilled through a test that involved data analysis, sorting and comparing data, and making decisions based on the data presented in the context of an environmental situation within four environmental education tasks. It was found that, on average, 68% of the pupils were able to extract the correct data from the attached maps, graphs and tables, 59% of the pupils were able to compare the data correctly with each other and 60% of the pupils were able to use the data presented to make decisions in the context of the environmental situation. The diploma thesis deals with the topic of the respiratory system and its inclusion in the teaching of natural sciences. The topic of the respiratory system can be quite abstract for pupils in terms of gas exchange or overall anatomy of the respiratory system. In the context of today's time of global pandemic, is important topical topic. In the theoretical part, the thesis deals with the analysis of the problems of the respiratory system, the analysis and content of this topic in the FEP for basic education. Within the theoretical part, classical and activating teaching methods were also analyzed, which were crucial for the subsequent creation of the educational program. The aim of the practical part of the thesis was to create and verify the proposed educational program on the topic of the respiratory system at primary school. This research was carried out in the 8th grade of elementary school and the phenomenon examined was their conceptual understanding, which was verified on the basis of mind maps before, after and with a time interval after the teaching program. The results show that the educational program had a positive effect on conceptual understanding and work using activation methods has a positive effect on pupils. It is evident from the recults that the educational program had a...

The Incorporation of Inquiry-based Science Education at Wood Species Botany Discipline for Upper Primary School
Dobisíková, Anežka ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with inquiry-based education (IBE) for upper primary school in science, especially in the context of botany of woody species. The theoretical part briefly summarizes the history of science education in the context of the development of inquiry-based education, maps the concept of inquiry-based teaching and presents the possibilities of its use. It also characterizes the teaching of science at the second level of upper primary school with a focus on botany of woody plants and describes the representation of the topic IBE elements in selected textbooks and workbooks. The method of analysis of the teaching material revealed that the selected publications do not directly provide IBE tasks. However, they do provide tasks that could be further used research-wise. In the next section, research is presented to determine whether IBE elements are used in the educational programmes of selected members of the Union of Botanic Gardens. Based on the questionnaire survey and interview method, it can be concluded that the selected botanic gardens do not actively include IBE in their teaching programmes. The last practical part of the thesis contains the methodology and description of the implementation of a research activity on the topic of botany of trees in school named "Evergreen trees"...

Analysis of school education programmes of natural science for lower secondary education
Roreitnerová, Daniela ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Rajsiglová, Ina (referee)
8 Abstract About fifteen years ago, the Czech education system underwent a curricular reform. Thanks to that, schools have gained more freedom, but also responsibility how education will look in their case. The implementation of the reform was accompanied by various expectations but also by misunderstandings and problems. A revision of Framework Education Programme (FEP) is now planned. At the moment, however, it is not yet clear what will be the subject or the goals of this revision. This work aims to examine the current situation in the field of natural science and to subject selected school educational programs (SEP) to quantitative analysis. SEPs are understood here as one of the possible indicators of how some ideas from the Framework Educational Programs for Lower Education were conceived and developed by teachers. The thesis focuses mainly on areas that have been newly accentuated by the curricular reform. These are topics of key competences, interconnection of subjects (either within cross-curricular topics or interdisciplinary links through selected curriculum) and last but not least the topic of methods and forms of teaching and work with the content itself. All online SEPs of Prague lower secondary schools (plus ten unpublished on the school websites) were analyzed, taking into account only the...
Fungi in the Teaching of Natural History and Biology

The following is an analysis of a textbook of natural history and biology from various publishers focusing on the topic of fungi (Fungi). The work also includes proposals for worksheets and practical exercises that will introduce students to the issue of mushrooms in an interesting way. The thesis contains an interview with eight teachers form practice about how they implement the teaching of this topic in their lessons. In the research part, I present the results of the analysis of science and biology textbooks in the form of text, tables and graphs. I also present the results of interviews with teachers from primary schools and higher grammar schools in the form of text and tables.
